Abstract

Students who speak English may have easier access to up-to-date information in fields such as health, science, and technology.Having the ability to communicate effectively and accurately in English is a significant indicator of success. The purpose of this study was to promote the use of comic strips to students at SMP N 2 Sungai Kakap in order to help them improve their speaking skills. The researcher carried out a classroom action research study to learn about the phenomenon that occurred during the teaching and learning process and purposefully attempted to offer a solution.Although it shares characteristics with both quantitative and qualitative research, Classroom Action Research is distinct from both.To investigate teaching contexts, action research entails conducting self-reflection, critical analysis, and systematic research. The outcome was that the students' speaking ability significantly improved as a result of using comis strips. Through the use of comic strips, the students were able to correctly comprehend a word's meaning and purpose. During the teaching and learning process, meaningful situations were created among the students, resulting in increased participation and decreased self-confidence in presenting their ideas. When asked, they said that using comic strips made it much easier for them to understand. Using comic strips to teach students improved their speaking skills. The students' participation in the speaking activity, which was observed by observation checklist and field note, demonstrates this.
